Community, police prepare for event

LEWISTOWN — In an effort to bring community members and law enforcement together in a peaceful setting, Lewistown’s seventh annual National Night Out event will take place from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at Rec Park. National Night Out is a nationwide campaign that seeks to make neighborhoods safer by building relationships between communities, local law enforcement and emergency services. Lewistown is just one of thousands of communities across the U.S. that are working toward achieving NNO’s goal.

Country artist awarded in Mount Union

When Curtis Wright was a teenager, he dreamed of being in a band. Now, at the age of 62, he has countless years of experience in the country music industry under his belt…and a 2018 Distinguished Alumnus Award. Wright, a Huntingdon native, is an alum of Mount Union High School and was recently recognized by the area alumni’s association for his musical accomplishments, thus becoming this year’s “Distinguished Alumnus” for Mount Union Area Schools.

FAME hosts ‘Stop the Bleed’

LEWISTOWN–Members of the Lewistown Kiwanis and South Hills School of Business had the opportunity to learn how to treat life-threatening bleeding during a “Stop the Bleed” program hosted by FAME EMS on Tuesday night. “Stop the Bleed” is a national campaign that was formed by a work group under the National Security Council. The campaign seeks to educate communities through training programs that teach people how to respond to emergency situations involving bleeding control.

Three homes destroyed in fire

LEWISTOWN — Three homes were destroyed following a structure fire that occurred, Thursday afternoon, on the 100 block of Shaw Avenue in Lewistown. The Lewistown Borough Fire Department was dispatched for a reported structure fire shortly after 1 p.m. Chief Robert Barlett was in charge at the scene. After three and a half hours, responding fire companies were able to contain the flames, but residences 127, 131 and 133 were deemed total losses.
